6-Week Blogging Challenge: Week 2 – The Awkward Project

New ideas

Creating a New Logo and Banner

Hi, I’m Marilee, and if this is your first time with me, I am doing a six-week blogging challenge where I post a video every week about getting back into my passion project. Blogging is not much of a challenge yet, but life happens, so I wanted to make sure I have the time to do it.

I decided to update my site through WordPress, and I have to admit it is not easy. I may be a designer for my profession, but I found that it’s a different world. I created a new logo and a banner for my site.

It’s done in a chalkboard style that looks like it was back in school to get the feel of the time period that we were all awkward in.

Experimenting with Plugins

The first time I did my blog, I didn’t understand WordPress very well, or the plugins that came with it. I was doing all I could to get my posts up and I didn’t look at what types of plugins there are. I want to look into those, I’m still trying to figure that out. I am finding out ways that I can optimize my site.

Tips for Designing a Logo or Banner

For anybody starting out, I thought I would give some tips. This week, I was talking about designs with logos or banners. My advice to anyone who needs help in this area is to pick a theme that visually describes your site.

For example, with the Awkward Years, I wanted to think of a time period where you felt most awkward. For most people, including myself, that was in school, so I wanted to have a chalkboard image for my banner. I’ve found that listing attributes that would go with what I want for my site has been helpful.
